Melanie began training her Samoyed in obedience in 1989 and entered her first obedience trial in 1991, earning a CD (Companion Dog) title on her dog. She was hooked! She still competes in obedience, as well as many other sports, with her current breed, Papillons. She has titled her dogs in rally, agility, scent work, CAT/Fast CAT, trick and Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and has dabbled in conformation and tracking.
Melanie has 27 years of experience teaching group obedience classes. And she has added rally obedience, agility, trick training, scent work, scaredy dog, hyper dog and reactive rover classes over the years. She employs a positive approach to her training and teaching as she knows this will enhance the bond between trainer and trainee. She is a professional member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a member of the Oak Ridge Kennel Club, an Agility Course Test (ACT) Evaluator, and an AKC CGC/S.T.A.R. Puppy/Trick Evaluator.
Melanie currently has two Papillons: Fergie and Vienna. Fergie is 13 ½ but still likes competing and being active. She has titles in obedience, rally, agility, scent work, FAST CAT, trick and has her CGCA and CGCU. She still does a little agility but is mostly retired from the sport. She still competes in scent work and Fast CAT. Vienna just turned 3 but has already earned 35 titles in obedience, rally, agility, scent work, FAST CAT, trick and has her CGCA and CGCU. Melanie and Vienna competed at the 2018 Rally National Championships and placed in their division.
