FAQ Buffet Style Group Class

When do classes start?
Attend the INTRO class where we learn how to talk to dogs, then you create your own schedule and class curriculum. Visit our Scheduling Calendar to reserve your spot in each class you'd like to attend.
What is the INTRO Class?
This is the first class. We will cover how we talk to dogs… NO PUPPIES. NO DOGS. JUST PEOPLE. A requirement before you move forward into our “buffet-style” obedience classes. In the INTRO class is where we all get on the same page.
*If your pup has completed training at Meadowbrooke Boarding School or our Dayschool Training program or if you have already done Private Lessons with Susie, you can skip the INTRO class*.
How do I choose my classes?
Multiple classes will be offered. Each class has a focused topic, and other additional skills will also be covered. Pick and choose upon your preference.
You must have a spot reserved on the schedule before coming to a class. You will receive an email letting you know that you confirmed.
Can I repeat the same class twice?
Absolutely!
Do I have to schedule all of the classes at once?
No. You may want to schedule the first couple, then decide which classes you want to take after completing those.
How do I get my S.T.A.R Puppy Certificate?
Purchase the 6-class package. Attend 5 buffet style classes and reserve a spot in the Star Puppy Test class before your pup is 1 year old. Your #6 final class will be the AKC Star Puppy Test. You must bring a dog toy, dog tag or proof of ID, hairbrush or grooming tool and read the AKC pledge.
What age can my puppy start group classes?
We accept dogs from the age of 14 weeks and up who meet our vaccination requirements
What do I need to bring to class?
Yummy treats, nonretractable/flat 6ft leash, with a collar.
Do passes expire?
We suggest attending class on a regular basis. Your class passes will expire within one year from purchase. In extenuating circumstances, we are happy to apply an extension on a case-by-case basis.
No Show Cancelations:
We welcome reserving your spot ahead of time, and we understand things come up. Please cancel at least 24 hours before class starts. Visit the link in your appointment reminder email or contact TrainingCoordinator@K9centertn.com to cancel. Failure to notify us of a cancelation will result in a $20 fee.
Descriptions on each class:
INTRO… How we talk to dogs… NO PUPPIES. NO DOGS. JUST PEOPLE. This is the first class. A requirement before you move forward into our “buffet-style” obedience classes. Here's where we all get on the same page, at the INTRO Class.
BASIC PUPPY BASICS… The beginnings of all the basics for puppies under one year. How to teach your dog c’mere, sit, down, stay, loose leash walking. And manners… off, leave it, no-bite, hush, and potty-training.. all common puppy problems.
ELEMENTARY DOG BASICS… The beginnings of all the basics for dogs over one year. How to teach your dog c’mere, sit, down, stay, loose leash walking. And manners like… off, leave it, no-bite, hush.
THE ELUSIVE INDEPENDENT DOWN… AND STAY... How to teach your dog to “down” whenever and wherever you want. We will work toward having a ten-step back away or walk away stay in this class. You should be able to lure your dog down easily before this class. If you can’t lure your dog down easily… you need a basics class before this one.
THE ART OF HEELING and LOOSE LEASH WALKING… It really is a form of art when it is done correctly. You’ll want to have a grasp on “the basics” before you take this class. Come in with an open mind and a teachable spirit and you may leave with the best walk you and your best friend have ever had.
AMAZING STAY… STAY no matter WHERE… STAY no matter WHAT. You should be able to back away from your dog for at least ten steps and walk away from your dog at least ten steps before you take this class.
RECALL… The informal and formal recall. What everyone wants and very few have.
INTRO TO AGILITY… It’s the fastest growing dog sport in the country and is insanely fun. We will cover the fundamentals of Agility and prepare you to join Agility 1 classes. Most need to take at least three of the Intro classes before they are ready to move to group Agility 1. You can take one class… just to see if you love it as much as you think you will... Or take the plunge and sign up for all three! Basic obedience skills required. If your dog is already comfortable performing the obedience skills needed for Agility, then you do not need to attend our INTRO class.
BRUSH UPS… This class is for teams who have mastered the basics but need a little help with a thing or two. It’s a great class if your dog needs to calm down and walk past dogs and/or work in a class situation. We will work on what YOU need to work on in this class.

RALLY FUNDAMENTALS… Rally is a great way to deepen your working bond with your dog. This may lead to you showing your dog in Rally, or you may learn the exercises so you can add some fun work time to your walk time with your dog. Before you take this class, you should be able to walk your dog on a loose leash and have a decent “heel.” and have other foundational skills including Sit, Down, Stay and Come.

STAR PUPPY TEST… For puppies UNDER one year of age… after you have completed FIVE of the “buffet-style” classes. You must bring a dog toy, dog tag or proof of ID, hairbrush or grooming tool and read the AKC pledge and all of the STAR PUPPY test items and requirements. Be sure to bring EVERYTHING you need to satisfy all the requirements. We will go over ALL of them before the test.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN TEST… Take this test separately from your Buffet Style passes once you and your dog/puppy are ready to take the test. Please be sure to read over the requirements CGC Test Items. Then sign up to take the CGC test when you are ready!

Depending on your pup, within 3 classes you can prepare enough to join our higher-level Agility 1 classes.
